Today we talk with German based artist, Aysun Kuzey of Kuzey Creations. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she shares with us her Fairytale Redux show choice and what she's looking forward to tackling.
How many shows have you been involved with?
Three so far: Game of Thrones, OUAT, and Star Wars.
How long does a TRS project generally take for you?
It depends on the doll...some dolls don't require more than a week and other dolls like Mulan with all the details of costume needed several weeks to a month or more.
What's the hardest/best thing about participating?
You feel yourself pushed to new challenges: try to top your last doll with your next one. That's the hardest and also the best thing about this whole project. You look at the other creations and you feel
yourself inspired to add more and more details to your creation. Not in a competitive way but in an inspiring way. The artists are helping each other in any way they can. You learn so many new tricks during the process.
What's your personal favorite TRS achievement?
I can't name just one to be honest. I am proud to have made my first
male character (OUAT Jefferson/Mad Hatter) but also trying out new
pastels so the repaints get way more detailed and delicate. Costume
wise, it is definitely Mulan's outfit. The details took forever and I
wanted to create this awesome costume as detailed and exact as I
could.
What's the most expensive element you've incorporated?
Again, Mulan. The Chinese coins on her costume were picked apart
bracelets I found and I used about 5 bracelets I think.
What excites you most about this show?
Everyone has such awesome and creative ideas and some unexpected
twists in how the characters will be created. It may be the most awesome
and surprising show we've done so far!
Why did you pick your character?
I love Mulan's character: a strong woman who was an actual historical
figure and I wanted to give her an unexpected twist.
How did you decide your concept?
It was a long process of where I wanna go with her: give her a twist
that is badass so she can be even more badass that she already is. My
daughter helped me with finding the right direction.
What will be your greatest challenge in creating her?
I will try out new stuff I've never done before, mostly with sculpting
and with pastels on her body. It won't be easy but it'll be so worth
it.
