Toni Brown of Bordello Dolls has been wowing fans for years with her bold painting and realistic hair. Today she talks about her participation with TRS and what we can look forward to this fall.
How many shows have you been involved with?
I've been involved with two of the shows, the Once Upon a Time and Star Wars.
How long does a TRS project generally take for you?
I'm normally on more than one project at a time so I'd guess depending the costume and complexity of the character, anywhere from 30-50 hours.
What's the hardest/best thing about participating?
The hardest thing for me can often be finding the right materials for the job.
The best would be the rewarding feeling when I feel I've succeeded in
what my vision was (which as any artist can tell you doesn't always
happen).
What's your personal favorite TRS achievement?
I was very happy with the face on my Anakin doll. I was also very
happy with the fur coat I made for Cruella.
What's the most expensive element you've incorporated?
The most expensive part is usually the doll itself. Outside of that,
fabric can be quite costly for the higher end ones and embellishments
can also add up.
What excites you most about this show?
What excites me the most is being able to put our own "twist" on these
characters. I think it is going to be very interesting to see what
everyone comes up with.
Why did you pick your character?
I picked La Esmeralda. Being of "Gypsy" blood myself, I was drawn to
this character because of the unique things I can bring to this
character.
How did you decide your concept?
Gypsies are rather mysterious and I'm bringing a very dark side to her.
What will be your greatest challenge in creating her?
Definitely her costume.
Thanks so much, Toni! She's going to be amazing!
